Create a Guest List

It all begins with creating a stellar guest list. You can either pick people who all know each other or encourage some new friendships by inviting a diverse group of people. Don’t forget the logistics, such as how many people can fit in the space comfortably. We also recommend you ask your guest whether they have any dietary requirements.

Choose Your Menu

At the end of the day, it’s a dinner party. This means the food should blow your guests away. Make sure to be smart with your ingredient choices. For example, if you’re going to prepare a stew, look for the best meat cuts for braising. Try to purchase local, fresh, and seasonal produce.

Prep Your Ingredients

If you have any cold starters going out, we suggest you prepare these well before your guests start arriving. For the meals that require cooking once the guests are in your home, make sure to prep your ingredients beforehand so you can avoid running around in a panic.

Set the Table

Make sure to pick plates and linen that go with the theme of the night. Don’t forget the attention to detail when setting the table. If you’ve opted for a seating chart, add some name cards on each seat. Light plenty of candles and add some fresh flowers to the table. We suggest you write up a small checklist to cross off all the elements of your table setting.

Pick Some Tunes

Having a few great playlists can help set the mood and make your guests feel relaxed. Rather than having to sift through hundreds of songs, we recommend you create a few playlists that you can play through the night. If all goes well, your dinner will turn into a dance party after dessert is served.

For those who have never hosted a dinner party before, make sure to remain calm. When you have several guests at home and you need to juggle countless things at the same time, it’s easy to let your stress get the best of you. Remember to keep cool, calm, and collected at all times. Even if you do make some mistakes or slightly overcook a dish, it’s not the end of the world. Practice makes perfect, so why not create your dinner party into a regular occurrence?
