How to Make Homework More Fun

Posted on December 10, 2019

**Collaborative post**

Homework may not be at the top of your child’s priorities; however, parents can help to make this time more fun by following these helpful strategies from Parsons Green Prep School…

  1. Parents can encourage a positive attitude towards homework by joining in!
Share study time with your son or daughter by catching up on some of your own work or taking a new online course. This is a great way to model good working behaviour and make study time feel special. Sit together in the same room as your child and share some of your favourite snacks whilst you both complete your work.
  2. Help to establish an effective homework routine by creating a study schedule with your child. This is easy to set up on their computer or tablet and it will enable your child to dedicate some of their time, each day to homework. Your child can also use this schedule as a calendar for their social life too.
By establishing a routine you will help your child to become more organised and improve their time management skills. As your child begins to cross tasks off of their schedule, they will begin to feel more motivated and less stressed
  1. If your child is studying a particular topic at school, you could help to enhance their knowledge on this topic with an educational day trip. This could be to a museum, art gallery or a local park. Learning outside of school offers a number of educational benefits and can help to inspire your child. It will also make a fun day out for all the family!
  2. The more supported a child feels at home, the better you will find they perform at school. Parents can help their children to make the most of their education by demonstrating a positive attitude towards learning and showing an interest. Try to help at home by quizzing your child on their revision notes, finding interesting documentaries to watch on TV, and rewarding your child for their achievements.

Clare

Hi, I'm Clare (Emmy's Mummy). A former Nanny and Mother of 2 - Emmy (born February 2010) and Harry (born October 2012). We are Essex based and share our adventures and misadventures of a busy crazy life.

About Me

Hi, I’m Clare – Mum to Emmy and Harry, ex-nanny and the writer behind Emmy’s Mummy. Based in Essex, I share honest tales of family life, parenting teens, top tips from a former nanny and our love of adventures, food, and UK staycations. We’re always up for exploring – whether it’s a trip into London, a caravan break, or just getting outdoors with a picnic. This blog blends my nannying experience with the everyday chaos of raising tweens and teens. Thanks for joining us!
