How To Set Up An Art And Crafting Room In Your Home

Posted on March 9, 2021

**Collaborative post**

Making art takes a lot of focus. You have to be inspired and then have space where you can work uninterrupted for the time it takes to create. Getting interrupted can ruin your flow and the creative juices can vanish in an instant.

This is why you need to have a room or area in your home dedicated to your craft. If you are lucky enough to have the space to create a studio in your home then you can set this up to be the ideal area for unfettered crafting.

If you are trying to make a living off of your artwork or creations then this takes on added importance because you have to work efficiently. Having a dedicated space for this allows you to be as efficient as possible.

In this article, I will give you a few tips on the best way to create a room for your artwork.

Start with the lighting

There is a big difference between form and function sometimes. Take lighting for instance. In a craft room or studio, you need good lighting to be able to see what you are doing. This is one of the most important aspects of setting up your art studio.

Yet, at the same time, you want to have your room look inspiring and serve more than just a functional area to create your art. Your lighting choice can satisfy both of these factors. Get stylish-looking fixtures from Currey & Company lights that also provide plenty of lighting so you can work.

The location of the lighting is also important. One light in the centre of the ceiling is likely not enough. Add some other stand lights or a desk light if you are sat at a desk.

Focus on storage

There is this cliche image of the disorganized artist that can’t find anything in their dishevelled studio. However, this shouldn’t be the case. The more organized you are, the more efficiently and effectively you’ll work.

Have a good storage system that allows you to keep things out of the way yet easily accessible. You should know where all of your materials and tools are so you aren’t buying things that you already have.

Open shelves will work so you can actually see what you have. Then add some boxes for the smaller items and label everything correctly. Containers that can be put under furniture will help you keep things tidy and allow you to use the space better.

Divide your space into zones

Your creations likely have a few different phases of work. If this is the case then you should have your room divided into zones where certain parts of the work get done.

For instance, you should have a painting corner with your easel and paints if you are working in that medium. In another area have the photography done. And in another, you can set up your computer for uploading or touching up the photographs of your work.
