The Land of Sometimes CD review & Competition

A few weeks ago we were sent a magical new CD to review, this is aimed at children aged 2 – 99 and has instantly become a favourite of ours.  The Land of Sometimes is available to Pre-order through Amazon and will be released on 6th February costing £8.99.
The Land of Sometimes is an audio story book which can and will be enjoyed by the whole family. It is completely unique in its approach and delivery, the story and the characters come to life through the original music and the power of your imagination. It is a truly fantastic way for parents and grandparents to bond with their children and grandchildren, and the beautifully illustrated book which accompanies the CD is something which will capture the imagination of both parents and children, Emmy and I have both really enjoyed not only the varied music and story-telling but equally enjoyed looking through the book.  This CD has found a permanent home in my car as I’m not sure about you but I really find Children’s music quite annoying, repeatative and rather boring and just can’t bring myself to listen to them in the car – this however is very calming and I admit to actually listening to it when Emmy isn’t even in the car!

Throughout this story you are taken on a magical journey with twins Alfie and Elise as they travel to ‘The Land Of Sometimes’, where four seasons pass within one day. As they travel through Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter and as the story unfolds, you will be introduced to a collection of deliciously eccentric characters and their original songs. From the River Slouch Sling who just wants to make friends, to Little Twink, a mischievous little fairy; and Mrs Blip who likes to make you slip to the Chameleon Catcher and the Willow Tree Choir Boy to name but a few. Each character has it’s own song from catchy, melodic and funny, each one is very different to the last, with varing music styles also – such as Irish folk to New Orleans Jazz, reggae to disco – It is rather impossible not to find yourself singing or dancing away – believe me I tried and got caught out every time!

‘The Land of Sometimes’ was born from the minds of a truly artistic and creative team. All concepts, words and lyrics were created by Francesca Longrigg, an accomplished singer, songwriter and actress who, together with her long term co-producer Chicky Reeves, wrote the music and bought the project to life.

Chicky has worked with some of the greatest musicians on the planet from Ray Charles, Johnny Cash, and Radiohead to Timbaland. He worked tirelessly to blend each song sequence and character to become the epic sound scape that has resulted in the
finished Jools Holland’s horn section, Austin Howard (from the band ‘Ellis Beggs and Howard’), and some fantastic new talent in the children who appear on the album, who were all discovered in schools around North London.

Nicholas Jones was the perfect choice for the narrator of the story with his commanding but soothing voice which guides you though each song and effortlessly blends the story together.

Illustrations were created by Howard McWilliam, well known for his front covers of ‘The Week’, whose distinctive style, imagination and eye for detail enabled the many characters in the story to become a reality, and he was able to capture Francesca’s vision for each one beautifully.
