Bored of spending your evenings at home watching movies? Below are a few ways to make movie nights exciting again.
Broaden your choice of movies
A bigger choice of movies could help you to find that perfect film for your mood. There are now many modern streaming platforms that give you access to a much greater range of movies on demand. This includes the likes of Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime.
Consider whether it’s worth signing up for new streaming services. There may also be ways of taking greater advantage of on-demand apps such as using a VPN to access location-restricted content. It could also be worth using sites like IMDB to find recommendations.
Upgrade your TV and speakers
A new TV and speakers could possibly help to improve your movie-watching experience.
If you’ve got a relatively small or old TV, consider whether it’s worth upgrading to something newer and bigger. Most TVs purchased nowadays are between 42 and 75 inches. If you’ve only got a small living room, a larger TV may not be necessary, but if you’ve got a long room you may benefit from a 60+ inch TV.
While considering the size, you should also consider the resolution. HD TVs are now passe – the latest trend is Ultra HD TVs (sometimes referred to as 4K TVs). If you haven’t got one of these TVs, consider making the upgrade. Smart TVs could also be an option.
You could also consider upgrading your speakers to recreate that cinematic experience. This could include splashing out on some surround sound speakers or a soundbar – both options can help to create a more immersive sound experience.
Dim the lights
Darkening the room can often help to make a movie more engaging and could help to reduce glare. Consider drawing the curtains and turning off the lights.
You could go as far as to buy some blackout curtains for your window. This could help to prevent any light from coming in so that your living room is as dark as a cinema.
Prepare some drinks and snacks
It could also be worth stocking up on some drinks and some snacks before watching a movie. Popcorn is the classic movie snack – consider buying yourself some microwavable popcorn to pull out for movie nights. Alternatively, you may prefer other snacks.
You should also prepare some drinks. Why not consider buying a cooler for your living room to keep some drinks in? This could save you having to go to the kitchen during the movie to get a refill.
Turn movies into games
Why not turn your movie night into a game night too? There are lots of cool ways to turn familiar movies into games. This could include drinking games (for grown-up movie nights) or quizzes (you could host a quiz afterward to challenge each other’s knowledge of the movie). You could even check out a list of movie mistakes and try to spot them throughout the film.
