The Importance of Comfort When Driving

Posted on August 19, 2019

**Collaborative post**

Anyone that spends a significant amount of time behind the wheel knows the importance of comfort. If you commute to and from work each day in an uncomfortable vehicle then it can take its toll both mentally and physically. If the car is comfortable, however, then you can spend long periods of driving without pain or discomfort so that you arrive at your destination feeling fresh and energised.

Health Issues

Driving for extended periods of time in a vehicle which is not ergonomic can lead to a range of short and long-term pain and health issues. These include:

  • Stiffness
  • Pins and needles
  • Cramp
  • Headache
  • Neck ache
  • Chronic back pain
  • Spinal issues

Ergonomic Driving

In order to reduce the likelihood of these issues and to allow for a comfortable drive, you need to know about ergonomic driving and the importance of your driving position. This involves having the seat at a height which allows you to clearly see the road ahead with your hips at least as high as your knees, a seat position that allows you to easily push the pedals fully and having the head support at a height which allows you to easily rest your head on it. You should avoid slouching and keep both hands on the steering wheel as much as possible. Additionally, there are various accessories that you can buy to improve the comfort of the vehicle, such as lumbar rolls, cushions and back supports. These are particularly helpful if you suffer from back issues or other issues.

Breaks

In addition to ergonomic driving, a motorist should also take regular breaks when they are facing a love drive – it is recommended that you take a 15-minute break every 2 hours. On this break, you should get out of the automobile, stretch and take a short walk. For lengthy trips, you should consider sharing the driving if possible.

Having the Right Vehicle

Having the right vehicle is also important for comfortable driving as not all cars are made the same. You will want to find a car which places an emphasis on comfort with up to date ergonomic features and the ability to easily adjust your driving position. You can find the cars for affordable prices in the used car market from places like FOW which allows you to find a vehicle that you can drive comfortably without having to break the bank.

It is amazing the difference that having a car that is comfortable to drive can make especially if you drive regularly and for long periods of time. Vehicles which are not ergonomic can be uncomfortable but also unsafe to drive and can lead to a range of health issues. Make sure that you have a high-quality vehicle which is ergonomic and easy to adjust your driving position to allow for comfortable motoring.
