**Collaborative post**
Over the years, I’ve been spending more and more time outside, enjoying my garden with the little ones. Whether we are playing all together, they are running around and I’m having just a moment of me-time or we are all enjoying a meal outside – being outdoors is one of our favourite things to do. So, it’s important to give this special space the attention it deserves. After all, it’s part of our home.
You might be looking outside to your back garden and thinking how you could refresh it. The weather is getting colder, the days are getting shorter but that doesn’t mean your back garden should look grey and dull too. Today, to give you some inspiration on how to uplift your garden, I’ve put together some of my favourite outdoor trends.
Indoor/outdoor retreat to enjoy your garden no matter the weather

Who wouldn’t want to have an outdoor retreat that perfectly balanced indoor living and outdoor living? I absolutely love this trend and thought you would too! How to have an indoor/outdoor retreat? Install a custom-made modern pergola by Designer Shade Solutions in your back garden.
Designer Shade Solutions, retractable roof experts in London, create bespoke shading solutions for terraces, balconies, patios and many other outdoor spaces in homes and commercial spaces all across the country. Their modern pergolas are stunning and highly practical – these feature a retractable and tilting roof which can easily open and close, depending on your requirements.
These retractable roof pergolas can be customised with lighting, heating, side glass screens and more to create the ultimate retreat, balancing the comfort of an indoor space and the fabulous outdoor views. As DIY Daddy comments in a recent blog post, these pergolas are “the most practical outdoor structure that you could add to your garden space. Want to use your garden or patio no matter the weather? Well, now you can.”
Front yards as the new backyard

A July Dreamer shared this trend and I had to mention it. As she says, “This trend is all about maximising your space and creating a welcoming and beautiful entrance to your home.” The front of your house is as important (if not, more important) than the back garden. First impressions count, meaning that the front of your home, as the first thing that your guests see, should be given much needed attention and even a quick spruce up!
Quiet garden for more a relaxing downtime

Gardens should be relaxing spaces where we can go after a long day of work to unwind. At least, that’s how I see my garden. Sometimes, after a busy day rushing around, it feels so nice to sit down, close my eyes and just breathe in the fresh air from the garden. Turn your back garden into a little piece of heaven by adding “soothing colours, relaxing scents and comforting sounds.” as Rachel Bustin says. You could do this by planting ornamental grasses, different coloured flowers – you name it!
