Things to do with your children near Gatwick airport

**Collaborative post**

Gatwick is made famous because of its airport which is one of the busiest in the UK. If you are flying into Gatwick or you are staying here for a few days with your family before embarking on your outbound destination here are a few things you can do with your children to pass the time.

1) British wildlife centre

The British wildlife centre is 8 miles from Gatwick airport and should take you around 15 minutes to reach depending on your mode of transport. The British wildlife centre is based in Surrey and has over 50 different species of animals that your little ones can learn about.

The wildlife centre has large enclosures so your children can watch these animals yet stay safe at a distance. At the British Wildlife centre, you can expect to see everything from small mice to red deer.

Unfortunately, you can’t access the British Wildlife Centre by public transport as no buses go through that way. Your best way to get from Gatwick to the wildlife centre is via a Gatwick Airport taxi. Alternatively, you can rent a car for your short stay in London and access the wildlife centre via the following postcode: RH7 6LF.

2) Bluebell railway

The bluebell railway attraction can be found in the Sheffield Park Station and is a great day out for your children if they are into trains. The railway was one of the first preserved heritage railway sites and to this day have a wide variety of classic trains and carriages.

Bluebell railway is around 30 minutes away from Gatwick Airport and you can access it via private taxi, car, train and bus.

If you are looking to save some money on your Bluebell Railway experience be sure to book your tickets online as you can save a few pounds on each ticket.

Bluebell Railway isn’t just an attraction for younger children either, it’s a great day out for adults too.

3) Fishers adventure farm

If your children love animals, soft play and being outdoors the fishers adventure farm could be an activity that they will enjoy. The fishers adventure farm isn’t your standard farm as it has an impressive indoor and outdoor soft play area, an outdoor water park and a sky fall platform that allows your children to jump off it into a large pillow.

Fishers adventure farm also has over 40 rides and attractions for your older children so there is something for everyone here.

Note to all parents, you will need to prebook your tickets as the location do not allow paying on the day. You can once again get to Fishers adventure farm via car or private taxi. The nearest railway station is over 3 miles away so I wouldn’t recommend getting a train to the farm.

If you are driving to Fishers adventure farm use the postcode: RH14 0EG

4) Borde Hill Garden

If you don’t want the business of an adventure farm and would rather something a little quieter, the Borde Hill Garden could be an attraction for you. Set in 200 acres of beautiful parkland, the Borde Hill Garden is a picturesque place to take a quiet stroll and enjoy a picnic with your family.

While some children won’t have the excitement of visiting here compared to some of the other attractions there are still plenty of activities to keep your little one entertained. The Borde Hill Garden has playgrounds, meadows and woodlands that can keep them busy for hours.

You can drive to the Borde Hill Garden via the following postcode: RH16 1XP. If you don’t plan to drive then you can also access the garden via train, however, it takes over 45 minutes to get to the closest train station where you then need to take the final part of the journey via taxi.

London has many attractions and being close to Gatwick airport puts you very close to them. If you are staying in the Gatwick area for a few days and want to keep your children entertained the above activities are all recommended. If you know of any other attractions that could make this list please be sure to let us know as we would love to add them to the list.
