Tobacco companies have historically thrived in success, even though death rates among unregulated products users continue to rise daily. There is a global outcry to regulate production and use, but the industry keeps thriving. Tobacco has proven to be highly profitable due to its high consumption rate.
To minimize the health impacts, the industry has evolved to the production of less harmful tobacco products such as electronic cigarettes, e-hookahs, and vapes.
However, health experts raise concerns that even if they contain fewer mild chemicals, electronic cigarettes might have health impacts when not used properly. They contain hazardous chemicals that, when consumed, destroy the body’s organs and may eventually lead to death. If you have switched from traditional tobacco cigarettes to electronic cigarettes or have just started on the latter, then you need to know the health risks you are exposing yourself to.
With that in mind, here is an understanding of the health impacts of smoke and vapour.
Difference Between Vapour and Smoke
The two look fairly similar and can be confusing to differentiate, especially for newbies. The major difference between the two is that smoke is produced through the combustion of dry tobacco and is considered unhealthy while vapour is a result of heating an e-liquid slightly below the boiling point and inhaling the vapour. Although vapour is considered the healthier alternative, it also has some negative side effects that people should research before making their final decision.
There are many different types of ways to smoke these days, gone are the days it was just cigarettes or roll-ups. There is such a wide choice, should you want to use something different such as one hitter pipes.
What Are Some of the Chemical Compounds in Smoke?
Smoke from tobacco contains dangerous compounds such as nicotine, carbon monoxide, methanol, ammonia, nitrogen oxide, tar; the list is endless. This tells you of the dangers it puts the body in. Tar, for example, clings to the throat and damages the lungs and many other organs.
What Are the Chemical Compounds Found in Vapour?
There are not many similarities to smoke in the compounds found in vapour. The chemicals found here are similar to those in e-juices, for example nicotine, vegetable glycerin, or artificial flavors. Its lack of components such as carbon monoxide and tar makes vaping a healthier alternative to tobacco smokers and has fewer negative effects on one’s health.
How Does Smoke From Cigarettes Affect One’s Health?
By the early 1940s, it was official that smoking is harmful to the body, and as years went by, more and more research showed how smoking affects the body negatively. Here is why smoke from cigarettes is dangerous:
- Tobacco smoking exposes one to various cancers – Lung cancer is the leading cancer caused by smoking, mainly because when one uses a cigarette, the smoke directly enters the body and with time destroys the lungs and any organs around it. With your lungs, throat, and liver damaged, there is no way one might survive.
- Tobacco smoking causes infertility – Different research shows that men and women who smoke may suffer infertility at one point in life. It reduces the production of sperm in men and speeds up the loss of ovaries in women.
- Breathing problems – With compounds that damage the throat and lungs, breathing problems might arise as well. Nicotine and harmful compounds that enter the body cause bronchitis, asthma, and other breathing-related problems.
- Allergy reactions – The body can react with many foreign chemicals. When nicotine, tar, and other poisonous chemicals get into your body, you could get an allergic reaction on your skin, throat, mouth, or any other body part.
Conclusion
One of the steps to improve health is to stop smoking. Even if the process is difficult, there are always other options such as vaping. Always communicate with your doctor first before making any future steps related to smoke or vapour.
