Handwriting is just like fingerprints, it is unique to an individual so no two people will have exactly the same writing style.

We spend hours and hours helping our children learn to form their letters correctly, ensuring they hold their pencils properly and repeat their exercises over and over again. It is written down in their school books and these mount up over the years – do you have a pile of old workbooks stacked up at the back of your shelves unsure of what to do with them but not wanting to throw them away? I certainly do.

Looking back over these as the years pass shows you just how far your child has progressed.

Other special pieces of handwriting you may also keep and display proudly, that first note your child writes to you, the first time they sign their own name in your birthday card perhaps – these are special things to keep only displaying on the fridge isn’t always possible and means they will get tatty over the years.

I have the last birthday card my Nan sent to me and the last Christmas cards she sent to the children kept safely away in my memories box, I like to look at her handwriting when I am feeling sad, she passed away this year and there are still tears often. We also have cards written by Paul’s Mum so we can remember her handwriting – it helps us to feel close to her as she is very much missed daily by us all.
