Posted on August 5, 2022January 11, 2024

**Collaborative post**

Maintaining the excitement in your relationship is essential, and what better way to experience this than to go for regular dates? Indeed, couples who go on frequent dates develop greater affection and gratitude for each other while building the desire to spend more time together. Likewise, it fosters effective communication and helps you and your partner release stress. And less stress means you can make important decisions that will benefit your family. Fortunately, dates don’t have to be costly to be memorable. Here are some budget-friendly ideas worth considering.

Have a romantic dinner at home

Romantic dinner dates at home can be a great way to connect with your partner without breaking the bank. Moreover, you can save more by preparing homemade meals instead of dining at a fancy restaurant. Likewise, eating at home is less noisy and crowded, allowing you to share more intimate moments without interruptions. You can also customise your home’s ambience to suit your tastes and preferences. To get started, clean up your home, eliminate clutter and leverage yellow lighting to make your space cosier. You can also leverage scented candles to make your home smell nicer.

Also, ensure that your chosen meals are what you and your partner enjoy and are easy to prepare. You can opt for pre-made food options if you don’t have time. For instance, a pre-made lobster bisque can work if you and your partner enjoy seafood. When choosing your drinks, ensure they go with your meals for the night for a more pleasant dining experience.

Host game nights

If you and your partner enjoy competitive banters, then game nights can work for you. And board games should be part of your game nights, as it benefits your relationship in many ways. Since some board games require cooperation to offset the competition, you can benefit from the closeness you would spend with your partner when strategising to win the game. Moreover, you can appreciate your partner’s skills and learn from them. Research also indicates that playing board games triggers the release of endorphins that improves your mood and promotes compassion and contentment.

Aside from board games, you can consider options like finding your mate, pop the balloon, and the newlywed game. Setting a suitable date for your other friends and ensuring they want to participate in the activities is essential. You don’t want your guests to starve, so ensure enough food, snacks and drinks. Encourage your guests to suggest games they enjoy playing to make things easier.

Enjoy a hike or nature walk

Kill two beds with one stone by going on a hike or nature walk with your partner. Walking is a great exercise that eases stress and increases blood flow and energy, so you’d be improving your health. Also, you get uninterrupted time with your partner to catch up on life and talk about your favourite things. On the other hand, hiking can teach you and your partner lessons to apply to your relationship. For instance, your partner becomes your only lifeline when in the wild, and you would have to work together to enjoy the best hiking experience. Likewise, being away from home can take you out of your comfort zone, and you’ll have to adapt to the new circumstances. You can leverage mutual assistance (working together) and adaptability to strengthen your relationship.

Fortunately, several activities can make walking more romantic and less boring. For instance, you can take pictures of scenery or places that you find visually stimulating or take a walking tour of historic sites in your area. If you want to hike, ensure that you pick a comfortable hike based on your abilities and experience. Likewise, bring enough food and drinks to maintain your energy and stay hydrated, and take pictures to capture the beautiful moments.

Have a picnic

Another way to enjoy outdoor dates with your partner is to have picnics. Moreover, it’s inexpensive yet intimate and cosy, and you can replicate the experiences whenever you want. Your location sets the tone for your picnic date, so choosing a less crowded place is best. Likewise, ensure that rain or other weather conditions wouldn’t disrupt your chosen day. Ensure that you pack an umbrella, a tablecloth, napkins, cutlery, plates, cups, and a bottle opener. Likewise, bring a trash bag to clean up after your picnic. One advantage of picnic dates is that you can customise your meals. Therefore, you can consider various options like a charcuterie board, bento box, barbecue, high tea, etc. You can also prepare easy meals that you and your partner enjoy, so keep this in mind.
