Dressing for the in-between weather

With April upon us, we all know what that means in the UK – April showers. It would be lovely to hope that from now on in the sun would shine and we could all live in shorts, dresses, and flip flops but who am I kidding, this is the UK that is never going to happen, is it?

It seems a guarantee that the heavens open on the school runs, mornings are still on the darker side and the evenings still rather nippy.

With the weather still so unpredictable Fashion World have very kindly provided me with some clothing items to see me through this typical UK weather.

Essentials which can be worn in many ways.

I was sent the most comfortable jeggings I have ever worn – These are curve control high waist shaper jeggings, they fit like leggings without the falling down and see-through bottom area while looking exactly like jeans. The perfect combo for me as I refuse to wear leggings as they often ride down or become a little see-through in areas you really don’t want visible however I also had the button and zips on jeans as they are bulky and many of my tops have been ruined by catching on the zips.

They have elasticated inserts across the top of the waistband for added comfort, which also means they have a lot of give for the days you overeat of that time of the month when you are really rather bloated.

These are really comfortable and can be dressed up or down and worn with flip-flops, ankle boots or even knee-high boots and look great. They are available in sizes 12-32.

Now, I usually have huge problems in finding knee-high boots as I have very large muscley legs and normal boots won’t zip up around them. These, however, are on the large side, in fact, I edged on the side of caution and they are too big but that isn’t an issue and gives more a riding boot look and means I don’t just have to wear tight trousers with them.

The boots have full leather fronts to them but the back is an elasticated material so they fit better, they come in various width fitting too from a D standard fitting up to an EEEEE Ex curvy plus – this means you really will be able to find a boot to fit all leg shapes.

There are 2 adjustable leather straps too so you can adjust them even more. These are flat boots and I can walk for hours in them without them becoming uncomfortable at all. They are so comfortable and work with all outfits.

And to finish out my clothing for the unpredictable weather I chose a trench jacket. This isn’t in a colour I would usually have gone for but I am trying hard to brighten up my wardrobe and as I live in dark jeans and black/navy tops this seems a quick and easy way to add a splash of subtle colour to my otherwise dull wardrobe.

There are no buttons to this jacket, something I was looking for as at times if I am wearing a bulky cardigan or jumper it can be difficult to do up the buttons on a coat unless I have upsized but then it’s too big if wearing only a T-Shirt. This has a belt instead which I am loving as it can change the look of the jacket so quickly and easily. Tie tightly for an elegant look, wear loose for a casual look or tie in a knot for a completely different style.

It can be teamed with most colours, has pockets which come stitched up but I was able to unpick them as we all know how useful pockets are on the school run, and no outfit is complete without pockets.

This is a lightweight jacket which is fully lined, it is fine in a light shower but has no hood so you’ll need an umbrella on wetter days. It is really comfortable to wear and my go-to jacket for school runs now.

Other items which work well for in-between weather are skirts, as these can be worn over leggings or with thick tights when colder or thin tights when it gets a little warmer. Then with flip-flops or even knee-high socks and boots for a different look entirely. You can find loads of punk ideas for inspiration.
