The London Eye is a perfect viewpoint of London City from above. This giant (and iconic) Ferris wheel can be found on the Southbank of the River Thames and is easily accessible by public transportation.
For those who go for a ride, you can use this opportunity to take amazing photos of the city from an unobstructed viewpoint or just enjoy the beautiful skyline of the expansive city.
Below is a quick and detailed description of some of the things to remember before visiting this fun-filled landmark, including important details on where to get tickets, the prices of the tickets, what time you should visit as well as hotels that are found nearby.

What to expect
The London Eye encloses you in a large glass pod allowing you to see London from the sky at a height of about 135 metres.
From your unique vantage point, you’ll see out over buildings including Tower Bridge and the Houses of Parliament. You also get to see the city from a 360 degrees view, covering almost the whole city from just one location. To make a day of it, grab afternoon tea or a bite to eat at the Montcalm Restaurant near the London Eye and head out to explore new heights.
Getting the tickets
Tickets can be bought at the ticket hall that sits at the front of the wheel. The large hall is normally crowded with many visitors who want a tour of London from the sky. It is advisable that you get your tickets in advance online on the London Eye’s website to avoid the long queues.
Tickets have specific flight details, the ‘flight’ being the specific time of your ride. Sadly, you still have to queue as you wait to board the London Eye. If you have bought your tickets online, you do not have to queue twice; when buying the ticket at the hall and waiting to board.
The trip
The London Eye pods move consistently but slowly before you board. In case you have any challenges with mobility, the staff is on standby to help you board the pod.
The whole trip takes about 30 minutes, just enough time to allow you to gasp at the vast city below you. Depending on the number of people waiting, the pod accommodates up to 25 people or fewer. There is enough space in the pods to allow you to move around freely as you take pictures or view sites from different locations and angles. We have been on the London Eye numerous times and just love it – you can read about one of our visits here.
Opening hours
London Eye has specific opening hours every day and every month. Check their website to see when they are open and when they are closed before visiting, as times could be affected by public holidays. The London Eye remains open almost all days in the year, though.
If you ask us, the London Eye is worth every penny when you visit the city. Better still, for those staying at hotels like the Park Grand London Paddington Hotel, the attraction is just a short distance away, meaning you can visit more than once if you fancy it.
