Eye Care Tips for People Who Work From Home

Posted on December 14, 2021December 14, 2021

**Collaborative post**

Working from home is a way for many people to make an extra income or live their dream. Sadly, there are some downsides to working from home, especially regarding your health, most specifically, your eye care.

Being at home all day in front of a screen can cause eye strain and lead to dry eyes. Combined, these two conditions can lead to more severe eye problems down the line. You can avoid these problems by changing your environment and your routine. Here are some tips for people who work from home to improve their eye care habits.

Consider your eye care habits.

The most apparent eye care tip is to make sure you get enough sleep. Sleep is essential for your body, your mind, and your eyes. If you’re not getting enough sleep, it can cause many health problems.

Another essential eye care tip is wearing sunglasses or using UV blocking shades when required. These two items will ensure that the light doesn’t bother your eyes and that they don’t dry out too quickly while they’re at work.

Try eye exercises throughout the day and use hydrating eye drops should you find you are experiencing dry eyes or are rubbing your eyes more frequently.

Finally, it’s essential to have a water bottle with you all day so that you can hydrate yourself with plenty of cold water if needed. It will help keep the levels in your body balanced throughout the day, which will help prevent ailments like dehydration and headaches.

Change your environment

You’re likely not sitting in a traditional office if you work from home. Make sure that you have good lighting and comfortable furniture so that you can focus on your work without distractions.

Having the proper working conditions, such as avoiding the atmosphere being too dry, a humidifier or putting a bowl of water in the room, can help hydrate dry air from heating.

Improve your routine to improve your eyes

One significant way to prevent eye problems is to make small changes to your routine. You should avoid spending too much time in front of computer screens and TVs, as well as reading for long periods.

You should also take breaks from the computer and spend time outside during the day. This will help you maintain healthy body weight, contributing to eye problems like dry eyes or glaucoma. Practise the 20-20-20 rule. Look away from the screen every 20 minutes at something 20 feet away for a full 20 seconds.

Additionally, you should have a snack with you at all times. Some great foods for improved eye health include;

  • Raw red peppers
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Salmon
  • Dark leafy greens
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Beans and pulses

Conclusion

As someone who works from home, it is crucial to be mindful of your eye care. It can be something many people neglect until they start experiencing issues, but if you know how to improve and maintain your eye health, you can eliminate this risk when working from home.
