The best time to plant is in the spring when the weather is warm and there is plenty of rain. But you can also plant in the summer and fall, as long as you give your plants enough water.
The plant you choose will depend on the climate you live in and the space you have. If you have a yard, you can plant a tree or shrub. If you live in an apartment, you can grow flowers or vegetables in pots on your balcony or windowsill.

Things you should never do
When planting with kids there are a few things you should never do in order to ensure their safety as well as the health of your plants.
- Don’t let them play in the dirt. Playing in the dirt can be harmful to both kids and plants. Kids can track diseases into the garden that can harm your plants, and they can also unwittingly damage plant roots when they’re playing.
- Don’t let them use chemicals. Chemicals can be harmful to both kids and plants. Kids can easily get chemical burns from using pesticides or herbicides, and inhaling chemicals can also be harmful.
- Don’t let them handle sharp tools. Sharp tools can be dangerous for kids to use. They can easily cut themselves, and they can also damage plants.
- Don’t let them wander off. It’s important to keep an eye on kids when they’re in the garden. They can wander off and get lost, or they could stumble upon something harmful like a hive of bees.
- Don’t forget to wash your hands. Kids can easily transfer diseases from their hands to plants, and vice versa. Be sure to wash your hands thoroughly after working in the garden, and before you eat anything.
These are just a few ideas for plants that are easy to grow and care for. So get out there and start planting! Your kids will love it, and you’ll enjoy the fruits (or vegetables) of your labour all season long.
