Gears! Gears! Gears!® Wacky Wigglers® Motorised Building Set Review

Posted on April 13, 2018April 13, 2018

Harry is at that wonderful age where everything is exciting and he is beginning to work out how things go together, and of course come apart again, and this is repeated with most of his toys all day long.

He takes off wheels from his cars, removes batteries from robots and legs and arms from action figures – most of the time he actually puts them back on again too. It’s not done in a destructive way he s just curious about how things are made and how they work.

Recently he was sent a toy to play with which couldn’t have been more perfect for him, this was the Wacky Wigglers® Motorised Building Set from Learning Resources.

This set comes with 130 pieces consisting of gears, cogs, joining blocks, chomping teeth, googly eyes, flashing lights and much more.  It also comes with a detailed illustrated instruction booklet with model making ideas.

With this set you can make lots of wacky robotic creations and make them come to life at the push of a button.

Think of a construction set crossed with a remote control robot and this is almost what we have here.

We started off at the beginning of the booklet learning how to make a basic moving model by placing the cogs and gears in the right places. Harry took to this immediately and soon took over making all the models following the instruction pictures.

He was amazed that when completed all the gears turned perfectly together and using the remote control he could make his new model move across the room.

Of course, in typical Harry fashion it is only moments before he wants to pull apart his creations and start on a new one but that is the great thing about this toy – it is designed for this.

He powered through the booklet and before the day was out had made all of the creations, but that didn’t mean the appeal was lost – far from it after realising he could them make up his own wacky moving models.

At the age of 5 he is able to follow the booklet with ease however when it came to his own creations it became a little more difficult – he couldn’t work out that the cogs and gears needed to actually touch and be next to each other to make them move, and that the wheels needed to be on the floor.

Team work was needed and together we had great fun working out how tall he wanted his next dinosaur to be or changing that into dragon or car. His imagination is the only limit.

These sets can also be used together with other Gears! Gears! Gears! sets to extend the play.

We all really love this set including Emmy when Harry actually lets her play too.

Suitable for ages 5 – 9 years old and priced at £51.50.
