**Collaborative post**
There has never been a higher need for public safety than now. The events of the past two years have highlighted this. More and more people are searching for the best ways to maintain their health and wellbeing while they are out and about.
By following government guidelines and public safety protocols, and being aware of potentially harmful scenarios, you can maximise your chances of staying safe while in public.
There are lots of potential dangers and hazards on the roads and sidewalks, and being aware of them is vital to ensure you stay out of danger. With that being said, it can be difficult to identify what actually presents a danger.
Here are some of the important ways that you can maintain your safety and wellbeing in public settings.
Carry a Stun Gun
Electroshock weapons is the umbrella term given to stun guns and tasers, are a less-lethal form of weaponry that can be used to incapacitate a target. It works by firing an electric shock that causes pain in the target and temporarily halts its skeletomuscular activity. Unlike tasers, stun guns require direct contact with the target.
Although it’s not currently common practice to carry around a less-lethal weapon with you while you’re out in public, an increasing number of people are choosing to keep a stun gun on their person to feel safer.
Compact stun guns are small enough to fit into your pocket, so they are not noticeable while you’re out in public. If you come under attack by one or more individuals, you must be prepared to use your stun gun to overcome your attackers and flee to safety.
Before you purchase a stun gun, please be aware of the specific legalities within your region, as the laws around possession of less-lethal weapons vary from one area to another.
Be Wary of Others
The majority of the people you interact with in public will be harmless. But even if someone appears to have a friendly smile and gives you a warm wave as they walk past, it doesn’t mean that they aren’t a potential threat.
When you are walking along the sidewalk, browsing the local mall, or waiting to cross the road at a busy junction, you should always be aware of your surroundings. You never know when people are carrying lethal weapons or harmful substances with them, but being hyper vigilant will give you the best chances of being safe.
On a similar note, be careful who you speak to and be even more cautious about what you tell them. If a stranger strikes up a friendly conversation with you, it’s okay to respond, but you should never disclose any of your personal information. Do not your address, social security number, or bank details to those who you don’t know or trust.
Be Assertive and Confident
You would be surprised how much of a difference being confident can make. Thinking about your posture as you are walking down the street can give you an air of dominance.
When you walk with your head held high and your chest lifted, you will immediately appear more authoritative. This can deter potential thieves or attackers by making you look less vulnerable and more controlled. It’s a simple tactic that can immediately maximise your safety.
Hide Your Valuables
When you showcase your expensive belongings, you are making yourself a huge target for thieves.
If your phone is hanging out of your backpack’s front pocket or your credit card is visible in your back pocket, it can be easily swiped by somebody walking next to you. If you have a shiny new watch on your wrist or a beautiful sparkling necklace around your neck, this may attract criminals that are lurking on the streets.
Unfortunately, many criminals are willing to harm you in order to steal your belongings, so it’s vital that hide your valuables as much as you can.
This also applies to using your phone in public. This is sometimes unavoidable if you need to take an important call, but as soon as your call finishes, you must put your phone away somewhere safe.
If you are walking and texting at the same time, somebody can easily swipe the device out of your hands. Instead of replying to your friends as you’re walking out in public, wait until you are somewhere private to respond to them.
