intimacy vs isolation – How to Overcome Fears and Feelings

Posted on June 1, 2020

**Collaborative post**

Times right now are hard. Plaint and simple, people all over the world are suffering and feeling pain and not knowing where to turn. For the most part, we’re meant to be people who are social and around other people. We’re meant to be people that have social gatherings, feelings of trust, and feelings of intimacy as well.

But what happens when everything that you know suddenly changes and you find yourself in isolation rather than around the ones that you love? What happens with the intimacy level that you seek and crave is gone and you find yourself alone?

Times like these are challenging for a lot of different reasons but there’s no reason to give up hope. See below for some tips on how to find a balance between intimacy and isolation and see if they’re helpful for you.

intimacy vs isolation – How to Overcome Fears and Feelings

When you’re trying to balance all the emotions and feelings, it’s hard to overcome the fears and thoughts.

  • Being alone can lead do depression and other thoughts as well

Intimacy is important because when you’re alone for a long period of time, depression and other feelings can start to creep in. If at all possible, pick up the phone and do your best to stay in contact with those that you love. This can be as simple as a phone call or even a fun video chat to just see their face as well.

While it isn’t quite the same as being there with someone, it does give you the chance to at least communicate in an intimate way with someone that you care about and love.

  • Understand that intimacy can be intellectual as well

Many people think of intimacy as just something physical between two people, but it can be so much more than that. Intimacy can be intellectual as well since it’s something that can easily stimulate your mind. Words and thoughts can have quite an impact on you and those that you love so allowing yourself to open up and be vulnerable can be quite the emotional response as well.

  • Don’t downplay your feelings

Your feelings are 100% valid during this time and any other time. Instead of just sweeping them under the rug, stand firm, and address those thoughts and emotions. The sooner that you do, the sooner that you’re going to realize that you can address and overcome some of those constant fears and worries that are plaguing you during this time.

Finding a way to balance isolation and intimacy is hard for everyone right now. But if you’re willing to try new thoughts and things throughout this process, you just might be able to find ways to overcome them as well. Instead of letting isolation consume your life, find ways that you can take charge and grab hold as well.

Take back your mental and emotional health and try starting a new path to happiness. With just a few small changes to your outlook and your mindset, you’re going to find that there can be brighter days in your very near future.
