Lockdown is something that most people would never imagine happening to them. Being forced to stay in your home, only being allowed to leave for an emergency or to get groceries likely sounded far-fetched before this year, but here we are experiencing exactly that. And while lockdown is what is keeping people safe, and preventing the virus from getting out of control, it can do a number on your own health.
Healthy habits are often the first things to be cast aside in times of stress, but the problem with that is that without those healthy habits, your body isn’t going to be in its peak condition. That can leave you feeling tired, rundown, stressed out, depressed, and unable to focus and concentrate among other things. So, what’s the best way to keep up with healthy habits during lockdown?
Stick to a Healthy Diet
Depending on how locked down your city/town is, it may be difficult to access your regular selection of groceries. This means that your eating habits can take a real nosedive, as it seems the junk food is always easier to find than the healthy fresh items.
If you can’t find things such as fresh produce and lean meats, be sure to look at the frozen options. Frozen fruit and vegetables provide you with the same great vitamins and nutrients and can either be enjoyed as a side to your meal or can be used in a smoothie or shake.
And when it comes to beverages, water is always going to be your best bet.
Get a Good Night’s Sleep
Sleep is also incredibly important to stay healthy during the lockdown. While it can be very tempting to throw your typical sleep schedule out the window, by staying up late each night and then sleeping in, this can start to take a toll on your body. And then what happens when the lockdown is over and it’s time to get back to real life? Suddenly you will need to re-train your body to get back on your old sleep schedule.
If you are trying to keep up with your regular bedtime routine but are having a hard time falling asleep, staying asleep, or you’re waking up with aches and pains, it may be time to invest in a new mattress. Even if your mattress isn’t very old, if it’s not the right type for your sleep position and needs, then it won’t be adequate.
Typically you want to look for something nice and soft, yet supportive at the same time. It needs to encourage proper alignment of your body, distribute heat evenly so you don’t get too hot, and holds its shape well.
Stay Social in a Virtual Way
Remember, it’s all about physical distancing, not social distancing. What people are being asked to do is stay at home and refrain from socializing outside of the house. For those who live alone, this can be especially tough, as that social connection is vital to a person’s health and happiness. So, what’s the solution? It’s really simple, you need to find ways to stay social in a virtual way.
Thanks to technology, you can enjoy phone calls, texting, instant messaging, and video chatting with friends and family. Use this as an opportunity to strengthen your connections and touch base with those you haven’t talked to in a while.
Remind Yourself that It Will End
It can be pretty easy to get caught in a spiral of negative thoughts and fear during lockdown. The best way to combat this negativity is to keep up with your healthy habits and remind yourself that this lockdown will end, and life will once again pick up.
