I have a love hate relationship with earphones – I love the idea of being able to listen to my music or watch a TV show in bed late at night if I can’t sleep or even at 3am in the morning when trying hard to resettle the children or just instead of listening to Umizoomi or Paw Patrol with the kids – there’s only so much children’s TV I can handle, only I hate that when I’ve my headphones on they are either uncomfortable inside of my ear or slip off if I move around. Of course there is always the matter of forgetting I’m plugged into my phone/tablet and trying to walk across the room which usually results in the device crashing to the floor.
I have been introduced to the AfterShokz Bluez 2S which are very comfortable Bluetooth® headphones. Being Bluetooth means there are no wires to get tangled up in or to forget you are connected too which is a huge selling point for me, this also means you can pair them up to your phone, tuck your phone safely away in your bag or pocket and walk around the streets in the knowledge that you are directly advertising where your device is located (yes it is still an indicator that you have a device on you but it won’t have a cable showing which pocket you have placed it in).
What is different about these earphones to other wireless ones is they don’t sit in or on your ears at all! The sound is transmitted using a patent pending bone conduction technology, a set of bone conduction transducers rest comfortably in front of the ears, transmitting sound through the cheekbones to the inner ears via mini vibrations, which bypasses the eardrums completely.
Of course by not having something sitting on or in your ear means you are much more aware of outside sounds around you so would make running, walking at night or even cycling a little safer as you don’t block out the noises of cars/people around you.
These are actually very comfortable to wear, it took a little to get used to not having something over my ears but I actually much prefer these to my usual earphones, it means I can hear the children if they ask for something (although I guess that’s not always a good thing).
These have raised power and volume buttons on the side of the headset which makes it easy to answer a call or change the volume without having to get your phone out of your pocket again.
These cost $99.95 and are available from www.aftershokz.com
