Samsung Galaxy Fame #Review

Posted on January 20, 2014August 6, 2016

Recently I was contacted to see if I would be interested in testing out the Galaxy Fame with a Pay As You Go sim card from Three Mobile.

Paul and I both have smart phones on contract however with Paul now working in London; Emmy has started wanting to talk to Daddy on her phone – she has princess Walkie Talkies but can’t understand why these now won’t work to talk to Daddy anymore.

We thought this would be a good chance to have a spare phone so Emmy could receive a daily Daddy call on her own phone.

The good thing about it being a PAYG phone is that if she does accidently call someone the credit won’t last too long so is a less expensive option than her using ours.  We have limited the chance of that happening by programming in mine and Paul’s numbers only along with our photo’s and she only has it to answer her call from Daddy (Paul call’s or text’s me first and I then switch the phone on).  Also NO ONE apart from me and Paul has that number and it WILL stay that way!

Having a spare phone came in handier than we expected as on Paul’s last day at work before the Christmas break he was pickpocketed on the train on the way to work.  A complete pain!  Luckily they only took his phone however loosing your phone is horrid, your suddenly cut off from the world as who writes down phone numbers anymore?  Luckily he could email me when he got into work and I then went about getting his phone barred and reporting it missing.  Thank goodness for insurance!

He was then able to use the Samsung Galaxy Fame until his new phone arrived.

Samsung Galaxy Fame review

Features of this phone include:

  • 3.5” HVGA display
  • 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus and LED flash
  • Samsung Motion Features (shake to update, Turn over to mute/pause)
  • VGA front camera
  • Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) Operating System
  • S Beam sharing with NFC technology

We do let Emmy use the camera as it saves her filling my phones storage up with selfies or pictures of her teddies and doll’s and any photo’s which are particularly good I can send across to my email of my phone.  I’m thinking of adding a few of these monthly to the blog as there are actually some great shots and I would love to share them with you.

A great feature which when Emmy is older we would make use of is restricting web browsing and restricting the sites she is able to visit.

While neither Paul nor I would be happy using this as our everyday phone as it’s on the very basic end of the cheap phones scale, it would be perfect as a starter phone for any teen, or in our case for Emmy to use under supervision only.

Recently we have downloaded a few of her favourite puzzle games, colouring games and of course the much loved Peppa Pig – this saves her wanting to play them on our phones, which she loves to do when tired to wind down.

This phone bought as a PAYG from Three Mobile would cost £99.
