Slugs and Snails and Puppy Dogs tails

“What are little boy’s made of?
What are little boy’s made of?
Slugs and Snails
and Puppy dog’s tails
That’s what little boy’s are made of!”

That’s what little boys are made of!

Well not in this house they’re not.
It’s what Emmy loves to do best.
Digging and getting messy, hunting for bugs, climbing trees and fishing are amongst her favourite things to do.
Given the choice of any activity on any day she will happily climb a tree or dig for worms.
I encourage her if I’m honest, I have no objections to her digging, getting messy and playing with bugs and why would I?
She has great fun and as long as she is happy that’s all that matters.
This week Emmy and Harry have been on a very special bug hunting adventure, armed with her new bug hunting equipment and some Barny bear snacks to keep her strength up.  Emmy has been sent these to join in with the ‘Little Adventures Challenge’ with BritMums.

making mud pies, digging for worms, messy play, Barny,

They both enjoyed digging in the garden with spades and buckets – although now I’ve a huge hole in my lawn I don’t mind.

Emmy found 11 worms in the flower bed, under the sand pit and behind the rabbit hutch.  She then decided they needed a swim in her muddy water as they were dirty.  She filled flower pots with dirt from the veggie patch and poured it into her water bowl, mixing up mud pies then using her bug finding kit to search for the worms again.

She was then very over excited to show me her new pet.

Emmy wasn’t very impressed when I told her it couldn’t live in her bedroom or infact anywhere in the house (I had to add that as she tried to smuggle it into the kitchen and then the bathroom).

Harry enjoyed soaking himself with the water, pouring it from plant pot to plant pot and being allowed to get as wet and muddy as he liked.

They both had a great time and was nice to make the most of possibly the last of the sunshine this year – we can but hope but are rather lucky to be outside still in October.

Fun was had, mess was made, mud was eaten but at the same time memories were created – and at the end of the day: clothes can be washed and so can the children – the memories will last forever!

After a long soak in the bath and clean clothes for all (Yes I had to join in too) we all enjoyed a well deserved Barny snack.

Barny’s are a teddy shaped sponge cake with a hidden filling.  I had to try them (just for research purposes I must add) and I have to say they are rather tasty.  Harry loves the milk ones, Emmy loves the Chocolate (although she doesn’t like the centres of any) and I get the best of both worlds as Emmy gives me the middles).

Here is Emmy enjoying something else she loves to do – she loves having adventures.  So after cleaning up, we went off the woods behind my house to climb some trees.  She has just learnt to do this and practices whenever she can.  She wants to reach the top before she is 4….or so she says now! And of course wherever we go the dog goes too.

“This post is an entry for BritMums ‘Little Adventure Challenge’ in partnership with Barny, the bear-shaped snack providing a little discovery in each bite”.  Find out more about Barny here.
