The Definitive Guide to Cleaning Your Kids Shoes

The Definitive Guide to Cleaning Your Kids Shoes

Posted on November 3, 2022April 15, 2023

**Collaborative post**

Cleaning your kids’ shoes is not as difficult as you might think.

You’ll need a few supplies like a shoe brush, a damp cloth, laundry detergent, white vinegar, and a toothbrush to scrub tough dirt. You can even use an old toothbrush.

You’ll need to use several different cleaning methods, but each one will be effective for different kinds of dirt and grime.

Natural Water-Repellent Spray

Kids’ shoes have a tendency to get dirty from time to time, and one way to avoid these messes is to use a natural water-repellent spray. It works by repelling water and dirt and is easily removed with a damp cloth.

This spray is good for most types of material and should be applied evenly. For best results, use at least two coats and keep them out of the reach of children.

Canvas Shoes

Kids’ canvas shoes are great for everyday wear, but they can get dirty quickly. Luckily, they can be cleaned easily, and mud should easily fall off after a good thud. If stains are particularly stubborn, you can use an old toothbrush dipped in cold water or a damp cloth to remove them.

Leather Shoes

Leather kids’ shoes can get ruined with constant use. A natural water-repellent spray can restore their colour, softness and flexibility. It’s important to clean these shoes regularly so they last a long time.

Children’s shoes are made from a variety of materials and require a different cleaning method from adults’ shoes. Fortunately, there are several natural water-repellent sprays on the market.

Washing Machine

There are a few steps you can take to make sure your kids’ shoes are clean after a long day at school.

First, make sure the insoles are cleaned properly. Felt is best cleaned by hand with a soft brush. If the dirt is particularly tough, use a mild soap solution or wool detergent. Never put woollen felt in a washing machine.

You can use a soapy solution made from warm water and laundry detergent. Wipe down the affected area with the mixture. Then, rinse well and let the air dry.

Next, make sure that the shoes have been thoroughly rinsed. You may need to soak the shoes for a while. If they are very dirty, you can use a scrub brush to scrub the dirt off. You may also need to use a dish detergent to cut through any oily stains.

Another important step is selecting the right cycle. Select a gentle wash cycle that involves minimal drum movement.

This cycle will be gentler on the shoes because it focuses on the water moving through them efficiently. Also, be sure to use a spin dry cycle at a lower speed so that the shoes don’t get too dry.

If you’re worried about colour running or fading, try using liquid detergent instead of powder. Powder detergents tend to get stuck in the shoe and can ruin its shape.

When you use powder detergent, be sure to dissolve it thoroughly in the water before using the machine.

Using warm or hot water will also cause the colour to run and leave the fabric in poor shape. When washing shoes, choose a delicate or hand-wash cycle. This will ensure that the shoes dry properly.

For stubborn stains, you may want to use a combination of water and baking soda to clean the shoes. If you don’t want to use water, you can also use toothpaste and baking soda solution. If you are concerned about colour, you can also mix bleach and baking soda together.

Hand-Washing

Although many shoes made for kids are machine washable, hand washing is the preferred method of cleaning them.

It’s a great way to avoid scrubbing the fabric, which can cause wear and tear. You can use a mild detergent to get rid of stains and dirt. Try Simple Green, which is recommended by crime scene cleaners.

For more thorough cleaning, you can use an old toothbrush. The bristles should be hard enough to scrub away dirt, but the less durable parts should be scrubbed with more force.

Once the shoes are clean, place them in a washing machine at the appropriate water level. Then, hang them up to dry in a sunny place. Hand washing is a great alternative for dirty shoes, but you should always use rubber gloves and wash them in a bucket of water.

Hand-washing is one of the best ways to prevent illnesses and germs. Your children’s hands are constantly busy playing and exploring, and you’d do well to encourage them to wash their hands regularly.

It’s also a good idea to teach children to take pride in the act of handwashing by letting them pick out their own hand-washing supplies.

Hand-washing stations should also feature a special towel for drying hands. You can even play a fun game called “Whose hands smell the cleanest?”.

If your kids’ shoes are too dirty to be put in the washer, you can still hand-wash them using warm water and dishwashing liquid. If the shoes have insoles, you can use dishwashing liquid. It’ll help cut through the oily stains.

How to Get Blood Out of Kids Shoes

Sometimes, getting blood out of kids’ shoes can be a real challenge. If you’re not careful, you could end up ruining the shoes completely.

Here are a few tips on how to get blood out of kids’ shoes without damaging them.

  • The first thing you’ll need to do is remove as much of the blood from the shoes as possible. This can be done by using a clean cloth and gently dabbing at the blood. Don’t scrub too hard, as you don’t want to damage the shoes.
  • Treat the affected area with something that will break down the blood. There are a few different products on the market that are designed for this purpose.
  • Rinse the shoes off with clean water. Make sure you do this thoroughly, as you don’t want any of the product to remain on the shoes.
  • Dry the shoes off completely. You can either let them air dry or you can use a hair dryer on a low setting.

You can also try using lemon juice, vinegar, baking soda or hydrogen peroxide. The process is the same for all 4:

Simply soak a clean cloth in solution and then apply it to the affected area. Leave it on for a few minutes before wiping it away with a clean cloth.

Other DIY Tips

If you are not sure how to clean kids’ shoes properly, there are a few tips you can follow. First, make sure to soak the shoes thoroughly.

You can do this by submerging them in a bucket of soapy water. Next, scrub them with a scrub brush. If possible, use dish detergent to help cut through oily stains.

Another way to clean kids’ shoes is to use a cleaning solution. You can use a solution of washing soda or liquid laundry detergent.

Scrub the shoes gently with the solution. Remember to work with the grain of the fabric so you do not smear the colour. Then, dry them carefully by blotting them with a dry paper towel. You can also use a bleach pen or hot water and liquid detergent to remove stubborn stains.
