**Collaborative post**
I think it’s safe to say that we can all agree that this lockdown time has been a bit rough. From social distancing to not even talking to some of our family and friends, it’s a hard sell to even think about trying to find ways to connect mentally with yourself or someone else right about now.
But before you decide that this new introverted life is the best way to go, consider the benefits of picking up the phone and talking to another human (someone that actually lives outside of your home!) about your thoughts, fears, and worries. Even reading that sentence might have brought you some sort of relief.
And the good news? Phone counselling is actually a great way to find a bit of “normal” throughout all the chaos going on in life. If you’re wondering if telling your problems or talking to someone over the phone is a good idea, here are some of the reasons that I think that they are!
Reasons why Phone Counseling May Be Just What You Need
Talking on the phone is always fun so why not use it to your advantage?
Phone counselling may help you mentally cope
Even if you think you’re handling everything just fine, there might be something that can be of benefit to you by talking to a counsellor online or on the phone. Parents and people all over the world have had their entires lives turned upside down so it makes sense that there might be a long list of things that you need or want to talk about to someone without the worry or feeling of judgment.
You don’t even have to leave your house!
And even though right about now you might be wanting to leave your house, it’s quite comforting to know that you can pick up the phone and talk to someone about your emotions without having to travel or sit in an office and wait.
It’s confidential and helpful
Just like other forms of counselling or therapy, phone counselling is confidential between you and the person that you’re speaking with. This can be a huge stress reliever in allowing you to talk about some of the worries or fears that you’ve been experiencing.
When you’ve spent the last few months cooped up in your house not knowing what the future holds, the last thing that you want to have to worry about is lack of trust.
You might find it to be more affordable
If you’re on a budget, I get it. We’re all on some sort of budget and have to be aware of where we’re allocating our money. Depending on the phone counsellor that you use, you might find that it’s a more affordable option than the traditional in-person counselling sessions. This is because of many reasons but one of the main ones is that the counsellors can provide their services from home as well which cuts down their overhead costs of having to rent out a physical location.
Figuring out a way to cope during this time can be tough, but remember, you aren’t alone and there is help all around you, just asking for it is one of the biggest steps you can make.
