With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, Emmy and I set about making special biscuits to accompany her Valentine’s Day cards. Whether there will be any left by Valentines remains to be seen (I’m thinking we will be making more soon).
What we used:
6oz Plain Flour (plus a little for dusting the surface)
Heart shaped cutter
Large bar of Milk chocolate
Hundreds and Thousands (or whatever else you have)
Emmy and I are far too impatient to add ingredients a little at a time and luckily there is no need with this recipe – just throw the flour, margarine and sugar into a bowl and mix together with your hands until it forms a ball. Kneed for a few minutes then turn out onto a floured work surface, roll out to around half and inch thickness and using the heart cutter, cut hearts out. Lay these on a baking tray and cook on 180 degrees for 8-10 minutes.
When firm and golden remove from the oven and allow to cool. During this time I tidy up the mess we have made and once that is done we are ready to ice the biscuits.
Break up the chocolate into a microwavable bowl and heat for 30 second intervals, remove and stir and continue until the chocolate has melted. Dip the biscuits into the chocolate and add hundreds and thousands, icing or the topping of your choice.
We chose to only half dip the biscuits and decorate.
Emmy loved having free reign with the icing pens and pots of toppings – messy but fun, and they taste great too.
