When I was beginning to plan our holiday to Cornwall I started to panic slightly about how Emmy would cope with a 5/6 hour car journey from Essex to St Breward. I knew we would have to stop en-route however it is still a really long car journey for such a small child, she isn’t very good at keeping still at the best of times – even when strapped into a car seat; and she certainly lets us know when she is bored so I must admit I wasn’t looking forward to this much.
The lovely people over at Content & Calm
came to my rescue and sent Emmy one of their TrayKit’s to try out on our long journey. We were able to choose our own colour and I chose Pink Star + White Whale for Emmy. This is a lovely shade of Pink with Yellow and Green Stars on featuring a rather cute Whale in the corner.
There is a choice of 4 colours to chose from Blue Camo, Pink Polka, Blue Strike & Croc and Pink Star & Whale.
“TrayKit® is the all-in-one kid’s carry-on backpack and play-tray solution – a kid’s backpack which can strap to train and plane tray tables and hang from the seat in front in a car to provide an extendable play surface with raised sides
– no more toys on the floor!”
I’m a huge Dragons Den fan and first saw the TrayKit presented to the Dragon’s by it’s creator Mum of Two Solvej Biddle, who saw a need for this product when travelling with her own Children. Solvej was successful in sescuring backing from Dragons Peter Jones and Deborah Meaden in 2010.
You can view the pitch for yourselves here:
The Traykit is a perfect size (maybe a little large for Emmy but it is aimed at Children aged 3+ but I knew she would love it) for Children to pack up toys for themselves to keep them entertained on journeys on the plane, train or in the car. Parents can also pack the bag for younger Children. I found Emmy loved to help me fill the bag with her favourite toys and kept bringing me “More, More, More Mum-mum” to add to her bag.
We managed to easily add 2 story books, a colouring book, a selection of crayons, the Tombliboos, Upsy Daisy, Iggle Piggle, Macka Pakka, a few Haahoos, a cow cuddle toy and an insect net insluding plastic bugs (a magazine toy).
The TrayKit closed easily even with all of Emmy’s treasures inside and while it was a little big to use as a backpack now, it will soon fit her and will give her extra fun of being able to carry her own bag and toys easily on her back.
The bag has an elasticated strap on the bottom allowing it to be attached to an aeroplane tray and also comes with an extra strap which can be fitted around the headrest of the car and attached securely the the bags handle.
Once opened there was no stopping Emmy who started playing straight away, only stopping when over tired to fall asleep. She played for around 1 hour 20 minutes before falling to sleep and continued to play on waking up after stopping for a bite to eat. Out journey took 5 hours (including a stop) and not once did Emmy complain. This was a huge success and will be used lots on future trips in the car or on the train. It also made a great tray for Emmy to eat her snacks on en-route (no more raisins all over the car footwell.
I plan to buy Emmy the matching luggage set available to accompany this backpack when we have another holiday.
The above kit contains a Passport Holder, Luggage Tag and a Travel Journal containing: 6 coloured pencils, fun rubber, pencil sharpener, ink stamp, 65 great travel stickers and a Travel journal with fold out world map, travel games, travel diary, autograph section, photo library and much more!
