Project Big Girls Room - The Big Reveal

I’ve already shown you what Emmy’s Nursery room looked like, and you’ve seen for yourselves just how much fun she had prepping and painting the rooms, so now it’s time for the big reveal.

I have to admit to being super proud of what I’ve done and how I’ve transformed it for her, and all in the space of 1 day!!

Our best friend Steve came to our aid and painted the walls and coving (with Emmy’s help of course)

As the walls were previously Brown it took 2 coats of white undercoat and then the Purple was painted on. Luckily for me paint dries mega fast these days as I’m really impatient and wanted it finished (the fact Emmy was sleeping on my bedroom floor on a mattress may have also sped me up!) The Purple paint cost more than I was expecting as I needed to get it mixed up so cost £42.99 from Homebase. Yes, there are cheaper places but it was local and I was short on time.

Once the paint was dry it was only a matter of putting the furniture, toys and finishing touches back into the room.

I started with a new lightshade – it’s a plain white dropped effect one with pretty pink butterflies dangling down. This I bought from eBay.

Next I added some wall stickers. I had previously bought ready a lovely quote in a silver colour also from eBay. I found it really tricky to add to the wall as you needed to rub hard with a credit card/ hard ruler etc to make sure the design was fully attached. The top line ended up a little wonky but shhhhh Emmy hasn’t noticed. It says:

“Butterfly kisses and hugs
Fairytale wishes and big blown kisses
That’s what my little girls made of”

I had also pre-made some butterfly wall stickers using my cricut mini machine and I added these in random patterns to the walls and one of Emmy’s wardrobes.

Paul had to be roped in to fix up Emmy’s new blind. This was sent to us for the room revamp by Web-Blinds. I chose the Garden of Eden Green roller blind design as I knew the colours would fit perfectly in the room and I fell in love with the beautiful bird and flower patterns – I mean how could I resist? It’s amazing! And I freely admit to wanting one for my bedroom which incidentally has never been decorated in the 9 years I’ve lived here yet Emmy’s room has been done twice, as it should be as my children always come first!

I had to buy Emmy a princess bed canopy, I’ve always wanted one myself and it does help complete the room. Her Vertbaudet shelf went back on the wall, the other wardrobe was already adorned with stickers given to us by TinyMe at a blogging event I attended way back in 2011 and they are still going strong, and the owl stickers were sent by TinyMe recently as we were supposed to attend another event but had to cancel.

A Laura Ashley rug almost completed the room however no princess palace would be complete without it’s very own fairy door.

This was made especially for Emmy by Hayley – Handmade by Hayley, we are introducing the dodo fairies soon to start taking Emmy’s dummies away and of course in a few years the tooth fairies will be visiting so they now have their own special entrance to pop in and out of Emmy’s room while she sleeps. It’s adorable – thanks Hayley.

So here you have the completely finished room and we all LOVE it.

Awesome job well done! The room looks so beautiful and perfect for a little girl. She must be so happy with this. I just love little girly things. I have two boys so cannot have any pretty pinks 🙂

Thank you so much. I'm really proud of it. Harry has a blue pirate room but it's def not the same as kitting out a girls room I agree. You could have pink in your room maybe?

That looks beautiful. We really need to decorate our bedroom, this has left me feeling a little more inspired for the things we could do in our house!
