Ways to Embrace Culture When You Travel with Kids

Posted on September 9, 2021October 4, 2021

**Collaborative post**

Travelling with family is exciting. The build-up of stress, from buying summer clothes and packing to getting to the airport, is then released as you ease into relaxation in the sun. You deserve days on the beach and by the pool!

Travelling with the kids is always easier on a holiday package. With meals included and entertainment never too far away, you have time to relax a little and make the most of the experience. Family resort holidays are designed for just this! However, with so much going on, it’s easy to forget about dipping into the culture of the country you are in.

Discovering new cultures is a chance for your kids to learn something new, meet people, and become interested in history by being surrounded by it! Here are some easy ways to embracing the local culture while on holiday:

Sample the Food

One of the greatest and best ways to tap into culture is food. They say the way to a man’s heart is through his belly. Once you are travelling, you quickly discover it’s true.

Sampling local food comes with new experiences: you get to meet locals, find out what’s good, and taste flavours you might not be able to find elsewhere. To discover the local favourites, choosing a food tour is the perfect introduction.

Food tours are a learning experience for everyone! While your kids might not want to try all of the food on the tour, learning how things are made or seeing how fruits and vegetables grow are things that they will never forget.

Learn Some of the Language

Knowing the local language when travelling changes your experience. Conversation is the key to culture. You can hear the stories of locals, find out about their lives and their families, and make new friends.

While you may not have the time to master the language before you travel, having some simple phrases under your belt will make all the difference.

Learning widely spoken languages, such as Spanish, will always be useful as you travel. Taking a small online course through websites such as Memrise, you are making an investment that you’ll reap the rewards from when you travel with your family.

Learning a new language as a family can introduce new cultures into the home. It is also a great way to get the kids excited about their trip as they discover new words.

Go Out Sightseeing

Family holidays can be adventurous too! Tap into the culture of the area by taking a break from the beach to go sightseeing.

No matter where you travel to, there is always an interesting site waiting to be explored. Sightseeing is educational, culturally immersive, and fun for the kids as they get to hear stories and imagine life hundreds of years ago.

Whether it’s a boat trip or a day walking around ancient sites, your children can be immersed in new worlds that will spark imagination and curiosity. This is a truly invaluable activity for them.

Tapping into the culture of a country is an immersive experience for all the family. Embrace a new environment with these fun ways to make a truly memorable holiday with relaxation, exploration, and great food!
