How to style with earrings as a busy working mum

Using accessories to feel glam even when working from home

**Disclaimer: I was sent these hoop earrings from Carat London in exchange for this post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own. Two years on from the beginning of chaos for many of us, and now most people have moved back to working in the office again and normality has returned. Others have found that their companies work just as well with them working from home and that actually it cuts down on office overheads so they are continuing to work from home or at least a little mix of both. For myself, it was no different at all – I have worked from home since the kids were born and I stopped being a Nanny, only now others finally realised how difficult it can be and how little gets done on some days as there are so many other things around the house which need doing and you can’t avoid by closing the door.

Another thing about working from home is there is no need to dress up, no one will see you unless you are having a video call in which case you remember to brush your hair and pop on a little make-up. Now while I have never been one to need to dress formally for work – being a Nanny my clothing was mainly jeans and t-shirts, jumper or leggings – anything I could get messy, muddy and allow me to run around after the kids and get down on the floor in. This is pretty much the same thing I wear now, daily. I need to be able to run around after the kids after school, go to the park and bake with them, and working at home means I don’t have to don a suit or heels but I do like to at least make a little bit of an effort – even if that is only for my own benefit.

I always get showered and dressed for the school run, wash my hair, dry and leave down to dry or straighten it – on the days I don’t have time to wash it I will pull it back into a ponytail or wear my Alice band to keep it out of my eyes. I always do my make-up too, even if I have nowhere to go. Since turning 40 I have developed all the spots I should have had as a teenager but managed to avoid – they’ve all hit me at once recently – lucky me. It makes me feel better to be clean and presentable – my morning routine may not take long but it helps to awaken me and get me ready to face a new day.

Accessories are my go-to to make any outfit look different and to change a look very quickly – be that a necklace worn over a black jumper or a few bangles layered up. No one sees them on a daily basis but they brighten my day and make me smile.

Working from home gives many people the freedom to create a routine that helps them feel productive and confident, whether that’s getting dressed for the day or adding a few favourite accessories. It also offers the flexibility to balance work with family life and personal commitments without giving up professional opportunities. For those looking to build or change a home-based career, platforms like Jooble can be a useful resource for discovering remote and work-from-home roles that fit this lifestyle.

hoop earrings 4

Recently I received the most beautiful hoop earrings from CARAT LONDON and they are simply stunning. Available in Sterling Silver or a Gold finish they can be worn every day and for all occasions. A modern and elegant take on the classic hoop earring, these beautiful earrings feature round brilliant cut stones in a double-sided design for maximum sparkle.

With a safety clasp feature, you won’t be afraid to wear these for every day as well as special occasions. To undo the earring you need to press down on the top of the clasp at the back of the earring – this releases the catch and undoes your earring. To do them up simple push into place and the clasp will lock meaning they are locked in place in your ears until you press down and release the clasp.

I like this clasp design as I have lost many earrings by catching them while fiddling with my hair or them just coming undone – however, I would say make sure you don’t wear them around babies who have a tendency to pull on earrings as they won’t release and it could be rather painful indeed to have them ripped from your ear. The same goes for wearing while playing sports etc but at £119 I’m pretty sure you would remember to remove them first.

These are Cassia small hoop earrings and ones designed to be worn everyday – with the inner diameter of the earrings measuring 2cm these are large enough to be noticed but not too big.

I just love how I can wear them on the school run with my hair tied back in a ponytail with my jeans and jumpers or ear them with a dressy top for a night out – not that I remember what one of those actually is anymore!

Emmy has been eyeing these up already, so I will have to be sure to hide them away otherwise they will end up in her jewellery box just like half of my jewellery she thinks I haven’t realised she has claimed for her own.

Available in 2 colour options and priced at £119 these are very lightweight and go perfectly with any outfit choice.
